Today between 20-30% of orthodontic patients are adults. Most of them, like you, come for cosmetic reasons and want a brace that is not noticeable and does not interfere with their daily life.

The most aesthetic treatments available are invisible aligners such as INVISALIGN or brackets that are placed behind the teeth, such as INCOGNITO.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of each, and which one is best for you?

ADVANTAGES OF TREATMENT WITH INVISALIGN:

  • It is a very aesthetic treatment, the aligners are transparent and go practically unnoticed.
  • It is very comfortable because it fits like a glove to the shape of the teeth as they are made to measure.
  • There are no hooks or wires and the contour is smooth.
  • You take them off to eat so you can have the same diet as before.
  • You also remove them to brush your teeth so hygiene is excellent during the whole treatment.
  • The treatment is digitally planned and you can see the final position of your teeth before you start.
  • Thanks to new materials and the more precise fit of the latest generation of Invisalign thermoplastics with SmartTrack, treatment is faster.
  • Check-ups are shorter and can be spaced out over time allowing visits to be made in some phases every 3 months.
  • For teenagers there is a specific system with markers that indicate the number of hours the patient has used the treatment to ensure that it has been sufficient.

DISADVANTAGES OF INVISALIGN TREATMENT:

  • As it is a removable appliance, it is possible that if you are not careful when removing it, you could lose it.
  • The recommended number of hours for the appliance to work is 22 hours a day. In other words, you have 2 hours left for breakfast, lunch, snack, dinner and brushing your teeth. You need to be disciplined in its use to see results.
  • There are some movements that require extra support for our teeth, being necessary the placement of braces for very rotated or misaligned teeth movements.
  • You cannot drink red wine or cola with them on as the liquid will get between your teeth and the appliance and it will show. If you want to drink and not have it show, you should ask for water.
  • Some general dentists can also offer you Invisalign treatment but we recommend that you look for a specialist who sees beyond aligning your teeth and gives you not only aesthetics but also a comfortable and lasting bite.
